EVOLV3 Passionate Debating – English Department Collaboration
On Friday 30th January 2026, 19 articulate and enthusiastic secondary students from Years 7–10 came together for an outstanding EVOLV3 Passionate Debating workshop, delivered in collaboration with Miss Bull from the English Department.
The session began with high-energy drama and speaking warm-ups designed to build confidence, rapport, and quick thinking, before students explored the power of passion in effective debating and public speaking. Through carefully structured skills workshops, students developed strategies to communicate ideas with clarity, care, and control, learning how to elevate vocabulary, listen actively, challenge viewpoints respectfully, and recover confidently under pressure.
Working in mixed-age groups, students researched, prepared, and delivered debates on a range of engaging and thought-provoking topics, culminating in a formal debate competition using a classic debate structure of introduction, argument, rebuttal, defense and closing statements.
The final debates showcased exceptional maturity, confidence, and articulation, with students confidently expressing opinions, counter-arguing with respect, and demonstrating impressive public-speaking skills well beyond their years. This event was a brilliant example of EVOLV3 in action, bringing students together across year groups to ignite passion, sharpen communication skills, and build confidence in a supportive, high-challenge environment.
The session concluded with a highly competitive final debate, where the winning team stood out for their exceptional structure, confident delivery, and ability to listen and respond thoughtfully to opposing viewpoints. The team consisting of ?, ?, ? demonstrated strong teamwork, used ambitious and precise vocabulary, and applied the debating framework effectively to build clear, persuasive arguments. Most impressively, they combined passion with control, challenging ideas respectfully while maintaining clarity and composure under pressure, making them deserving winners of a superb debating showcase.
